Nine Streets
Social media was absolutely pivotal to my shop’s success—not just as a sales tool, but as a way to build real community around the brand. I created and executed every aspect of our digital presence: styling and shooting all photography, editing visuals, writing every caption, and managing ongoing engagement with a loyal and growing audience. From product drops to behind-the-scenes moments, each post was crafted to reflect the brand’s voice and values. Through consistent storytelling and organic content, I drove strong engagement, fostered connection, and turned followers into customers. Scroll down to view three groupings of social media posts I created over the years—plus a special section, courtesy of the covid lockdown.

shop_ninestreets I used to think face oils were suspicious—or at least a fast track to clogged pores and blurry vision. Enter: Wonder Serum by @wondervalley. A lightweight, nutrient-packed face oil made with sea lavender, hyaluronic acid, and bioactive peptides, it’s basically glow in a bottle. Absorbs like a dream, smells like citrus and spice, and makes me feel like I haven’t been ignoring my skin for the last decade. Face oil people: I get it now! #shoplocal #newburyport
-
shop_ninestreets While chatting with a longtime customer about seasons past, we got to reminiscing about favorite @aceandjig pieces over the years. Despite my love for tent-like silhouettes and sweatshirt-level comfort, I had to admit that my go-to has become the form-fitting Bo skirt—seen here in Atlantis. Dressed up with a knit and clogs or down with a tee and Vans, it somehow makes me feel both polished and at ease. Which pieces in your closet are bringing you comfort during these difficult days? #covid

shop_ninestreets Just like my shadow self, the Isla dress in Licorice by @aceandjig is full of untamed surprises: The neckline seems demure until you realize it can be worn open and off the shoulder; the length feels modest until you notice the generous side slits. -

-
shop_ninstreets Some new things are making their way online today—seen here is the Benji jumpsuit by @aceandjig in Umber, also available in Matchstick—but honestly, given the uncertain realities we’re all facing right now, all I really want to say is: I hope you’re ok. I hope you’re safe and have access to food and medical care, should you need it. I have a small business to run, which means I have things to sell—but it feels awkward. I’m just happy I stocked up on beans. I have so many beans, and if you need any, all you have to do is ask. #covid

Nine Streets: Let’s Eat
Like many people, I turned to the kitchen for comfort and creativity during the covid lockdown, and I started sharing some of the dishes I was making—along with the stories and memories they stirred—with my social media audience. It wasn’t part of a sales or marketing strategy, just a way to stay connected. To my surprise, these posts became a welcome bridge, sparking thoughtful conversations and genuine engagement that helped me—and, I hope, some of my customers—feel a little less isolated.
-
shop_ninestreets One of those meals that makes you feel incredibly grateful to have access to fresh food and a sharp knife: I made a toro carpaccio with greens—celery leaves, parsley, cilantro, plus mouse melons from our own garden—and seasoned everything aggressively with lemon, salt, and pepper. We ate outside, in the rain, squeezed around the picnic table underneath Clem’s play set. Thanks to @newenglandfishmongers for supplying our community with no-contact fresh fish. #covid #letseat
-
shop_ninestreets Let’s file this seeded breadstick recipe under things that might not be worth the trouble—although they did spark a nostalgic feeling in me, as my mother used to always serve her homemade soups with long, delicious breadsticks that, in Dutch, were literally called “soup sticks”—soepstengels. #covid #letseat
-
shop_ninestreets When your beautiful, big-hearted soul sister surprises you with a beautiful, big stoneware platter by @connormcginnstudios and makes you feel so loved—you’re obviously going to eat your dinner right off the thing, portions and propriety be damned. Seen here is a tomato and peach salad with herbs. #covid #letseat
-
shop_ninestreets I used to think that pitting cherries was a total pain—but under the current circumstances, given that we all have more time on our hands than we ever thought possible, it turns out to be a pretty meditative little chore. To get the job done, I tried using a chopstick, a paperclip, a metal straw—but in the end, I just sliced them in half and used my fingers. That’s a lot of cherries. Now what? #covid #letseat
-
shop_ninestreets Anyone who knows me will tell you that I’m not a baker, and that I don’t have a sweet tooth. And yet somehow these sugar cookies by @susanspungen for @nytcooking have stayed in the rotation. Named Color-Field Cookies, a play on artist Ellsworth Kelly’s work, they’re so much fun to decorate—like edible art class with butter and sugar. A little messy, very colorful, and always worth it. #covid #letseat
-
shop_ninestreets Me: “Bought some fresh local scallops today and made your favorite dinner!” Also me: “Thanks! You shouldn’t have.” Surprising yourself/treating yourself/losing yourself in the age of covid. Highly recommend: Seared scallops with beans, tomatillos, orange slices, and lots of lime. #covid #letseat
-
shop_ninestreets The best gazpacho I’ve ever had was served as an amuse-bouche at a restaurant in the south of England. It was ruby red and rich, silky smooth, and all these years later, I can still taste that first zippy spoonful. The second-best gazpacho was from a tapas restaurant in Las Vegas called Firefly, which I frequented when I lived there because “locals” could enjoy fresh food without absorbing cigarette smoke to the sound of slot machines. That’s where I learned to garnish the soup with nice things like peppers and avocado—and, in this case, kamut, chopped cucumber and red pepper, and a six-and-a-half-minute egg. Yes, I’ve been to Spain. I stand by my rankings. #covid #letseat
-
shop_ninestreets If there’s a silver lining to lockdown, it’s that I finally perfected my oyster-shucking skills. Seen here are my favorites from @gliddenpoint up in Maine—which, when this whole thing is over, you should go visit! #covid #letseat
-
shop_ninestreets Today called for an easy shakshuka, made with local tomatoes, black garlic from @theherbfarmacy, and fresh eggs from @sandpiperbakery. (I recently learned that the word "shakshuka" itself comes from Arabic and roughly means "a mixture" or "all mixed up”—a fitting name for a dish that blends so many comforting things into one pan!) #covid #letseat
-
shop_ninestreets As a foreigner without a taste for turkey, it’s nevertheless always been lovely to be included in people’s special Thanksgiving traditions. I’ve enjoyed many variations on mashed potatoes and stuffing, but never developed an appreciation for anyone’s squash dishes—until now. Squash with lemon. Squash on acid! Seen here: Roasted squash drizzled with butter kissed by cumin, turmeric, cinnamon, and pistachios, and served over lemony labneh. I gobbled it up! #covid #letseat
-
shop_ninestreets The sweetest people at @ironoxfarm brought some squash blossoms to the farmer’s market for me today. I had grand plans of frying them, visions of gooey cheese in my head—until I tried one raw, simply stuffed with some fresh mozz and sprinkled with salt. (A safer idea than interacting with hot oil!) I’m serving my first batch just like this, followed by torn blossoms tossed with pasta and ricotta. If you can get your hands on these beauties, they’re so worth it—and please share your favorite recipe with me! #covid #letseat
-
shop_ninestreets Clem set a challenging menu for tonight’s birthday dinner—“plain pasta with cucumber and strawberries.” I decided to create some slightly more festive variations, like this cucumber salad with a dill/mint yogurt dressing and fresh cherries served in one of @carmiclay’s beautiful ceramic bowls. I’m excited for Clem to turn 6 tomorrow because popular wisdom says she’ll immediately discover flavor. #covid #letseat
-
shop_ninestreets Yesterday’s sourdough bread can be today’s little bit of luxury. We toasted some old bread and added the very fanciest salted French butter we could get our hands on—Isigny Ste Mère, oh là là— along with a bit of caviar and a sprinkle of herbs. Such a special snack to enjoy outside with friends. #covid #letseat
-
shop_ninestreets The last time I ate latkes, I lived in the Cobble Hill neighborhood of Brooklyn—years ago, on the corner of Smith and Bergen, an easy stroll to a deli named Mile End that specialized in classic Jewish comfort food like bagels with lox and matzo ball soup and brisket. I remember two particular things about that sliver of a space: Anne Hathaway, apparently a regular; and the side of latkes, served with apple sauce and sour cream. This is my test-run of the latter ahead of Christmas morning. #covid #letseat
-
shop_ninestreets I’ve never considered myself a baker, but Jim Lahey’s no-knead bread method changed that. It’s simple, forgiving, and fits into the rhythm of real life. I’ve returned to his cookbook, My Bread, again and again, and the results always feels like a small win—especially the Stecca recipe, which lets you add delicious bits of tomato, olives, garlic, or whatever else you like! #covid #letseat
-
shop_ninestreets If you’re not baking sourdough bread, are you even in lockdown? Seen here is a sourdough boule that I baked this morning. Not shown: It is very flat and the bottom is very burnt. I’ve already lost 2 hours in the comment section of @nytcooking, trying to figure out where I went wrong, and I’m still not sure. (Did you know that you have to feed sourdough starter, daily? Like I need another pet?) #covid #letseat
-
shop_ninestreets Do you have food memories? When I was in my early 20s, I moved to Minnesota for a boy and found a job at a small publisher in White Bear Lake. I learned very quickly that in my role as editor, I could travel the world for free—remember magazines? remember marketing budgets?—covering interior-design trade shows, thanks to all-expenses-paid press trips. One such trip involved a tour of Andalusia, which culminated at a regional furniture fair in Seville. (I recall having no idea who was going to pick me up at the airport when I arrived in Málaga, but I was young and dumb.) For two weeks, my fellow professional journalists and I stayed in small hotels and enjoyed local fare, including breakfast at an olive orchard outside of Granada, where we ate slices of rustic bread topped with fresh tomatoes, olive oil, salt, and pepper. I’ve never forgotten that simple meal and still love eating it during the summer, thinking about sunny Spain and free travel and how lucky I am that I was never kidnapped. #covid #letseat
